Protection of workers against the risks related to exposure to carcinogens : "The European Dimension"
The actions undertaken by the Community to protect workers against exposure to carcinogens are described. Taking advantage of the new provisions of the Single Act, a new work programme has been proposed, concentrating on health and hygiene in the workplace, information and training, initiatives for SMEs, social dialogue, safety and ergonomics. A new framework Directive on health and safety in the workplace has been adopted. The CEC has been working on the classification and labelling of chemical substances suspected of being carcinogenic since 1984.
