A complete set of resistive compressive ballooning equations for two-dimensional flow equilibria
Based on the linearised compressible resistive magnetohydrodynamic equations, a system of five equations describing the time-dependent behaviour of ballooning modes in equilibria with sheared flow is derived. The subsequent ordering scheme is based on the method of slowly varying amplitudes, where the fast variation is prescribed by an appropriately chosen eikonal. This method bears some resemblance to a scale expansion, where at the end only the first two scales are kept.
