Abstract

A photovoltaic current generator supplies a microprocessor central unit equipped with optical and infrared sensors to detect forest fires within an average range of 10 km, and to operate an early-warning system by radio or cable. The problem was to conceive a photovoltaic current generator that would operate in the open and feed the system by day and night, without interruptions and throughout the year. In 1988 testing was carried out over two months under storm, wind and rain conditions in a wooded and mountainous region of Spain.
