Abstract

A thorough experimental study of the dynamics of a photolytic H(2)O-H(2)S0(4) aerosol in a 2301 batch reactor was performed. Deposition onto the reactor walls, condensational growth and coagulation were studied as isolated processes. It was found that turbulent deposition is best described using De = k(e)x(2.6). The condensation accommodation coefficient of H(2)SO(4) was found to be between 0.02 and 0.09 and coagulation was best described by introducing a size-dependent enhancement factor varying between 1.95 and 1.2 for particle diameters between 0.03 and 0.2 micron. These results were incorporated in a sectional numerical model which gave an excellent simulation of the growth of the observed aerosol size distributions.
