Overview of the JRC's research in the field of waste management and the fuel cycle
Radioactive waste management and the fuel cycle forms part of the JRC research programme aimed specifically at waste generating, fuel cycle modes. Its particular goal of identifying, analysing and verifying modifications which may minimise waste arisings and improve waste quality takes account of both cost effectiveness and safety of final disposal. Studies carried out include safety aspects relating to long term nuclear waste management, in particular alpha waste minimisation, setting-up and operating the PETRA facility and actinide monitoring in solid wastes.
