ECLAIR (European Collaborative Linkage of Agriculture and Industry through Research) is a five-year research programme designed to improve the links between agriculture and industry. It encourages close collaboration between the two on individual research and technological development projects. ECLAIR includes projects on the development of new wheat varieties with higher gluten content and quality for the starch and flour industry, better maize varieties for the starch industry, new improved varieties of peas, beans, potatoes etc. for the European food and non-food industries, and oil crop varieties with a fatty acid content that is better suited for the oleochemical industry than the traditional European oil crops.
