An assessment of the possibility of ignition in the proposed IGNITOR device is made. Three levels of modelling are considered: a zero-dimensional description to explore a wide variety of energy confinement scalings, a 1D transport code to examine dynamic profile effects and a 1½D transport code to allow for toroidal and shaping effects and to study some physics based models for thermal diffusivities. MHD stability issues are also examined and, finally, the probability of ignition is discussed.
