Contributions to the 13th Symposium on Fusion Engineering
The near-term programme and present status of the Frascati Tokamak Upgrade (FTU) are reported. The assembly procedures and first engineering experimental results are also illustrated. Analysis of the activation of metal foils, based on the MCNP neutron transport code, is used to determine the neutron energy spectrum near the surface of the JET vacuum vessel. The design of a LH, electron mode, additional heating system (8 MW, 8 GHz RF power) for plasma heating of the FTU is described. In the same machine, plasma displacements will be recovered by the preprogrammed vertical field coil and the plasma current will be controlled by the regulation of the transformer and feedback coils. A computer code based on CSMP III is used to study these control laws and to optimise the regulation gains.
