Magnetic particles induced by plasma disruptions in tokamaks
One of the advantages of austenitic stainless steels is that they are non-magnetic, and so do not interact with the strong magnetic fields present in the tokamak. Despite this, some limiter elements subject to several hard disruptions in the FT tokamak show a ferro-magnetic phase in the melted and recrystallised zone. The stainless steel droplets coming from the limiter also show a strong ferro-magnetic behaviour. The aim of this work is to investigate the causes that have produced this magnetic phase in the material.
