The problem of intercontinental seaborne hydrogen transportation is presented in the framework of the Euro-Quebec Hydro-Hydrogen Pilot Project. The characteristics of different hydrogen vectors are studied in connection with the relevant ship type and ship design. The techno-economic aspects as well as the safety and interfacial aspects are evaluated. Several ship types are examined: liquid hydrides carriers and liquid hydrogen carriers (ballasted with water, fuel for propulsion or liquid hydride). The Liquid Hydrogen Barge Carrier is discussed and the characteristics and advantages of this type of ship are described.
