Microstructure growth in the Fe-10Cr-18Mn-0.2N remelted alloy
Remelts using a CO(2) laser device with different power and scanning speed are performed on high manganese content austenitic steel specimens, which are of interest for thermonuclear fusion. Characterisation of their microstructure (optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy) and mechanical strength (tensile tests) follows. The results obtained (least variation of composition and structure and satisfactory strength and ductility) suggest good laser weldability of the test material.
