Abstract

Recent theoretical and experimental work on photo-pumped X-ray lasers is presented. Numerical results comparing photoionisation pumping and photoresonant pumping are given. The perspectives of photoresonant pumping are discussed, with special emphasis on the idea of eliminating the line coincidence problem by using the same kind of ion for pumping and lasing. Results of experimental implementations of photo-pumping are discussed.
