European coordinated research and national/international regulatory initiativesFunded under: FP1-RADPROT 6C
Over the past 7 to 8 years, the European Community's Radiation Protection Programme stimulated research in the field of exposure to radon, thoron and their daughter products. In the period 1980-1984, most efforts were directed to assessing the extent and the distribution of exposure to radon within the Member States. The present situation within the Community is outlined and problems linked to risk assessment and risk reduction are discussed. An overview of the regulatory aspects and the present research priorities is presented. Finally, an impression of what could be done in the epidemiological field is given.
