Pipe roughness and Reynolds number limits for the orifice plate discharge coefficient equation
Pipe roughness and Reynolds number limits to be associated with the new orifice plate discharge coefficient equation agreed at New Orleans in 1988 are derived. Since these depend on the uncertainty of the equation, this is calculated. Data on the effect of pipe roughness on the discharge coefficient are presented. A formula to fit the data is obtained and roughness limits for the equation are tabulated. There is no upper limit on Reynolds number due to the physical basis of the equation. The lower limit is shown to be equal to the minimum Reynolds number in the EEC/API database, expressed as a function of diameter ratio.
