The subthermal neutron induced fission cross sections of the common fissile isotopes and their impact on the Westcott g(f) factor
The 233U, 235U and 239Pu and 241Pu (n,f) cross-sections have been measured at the Geel linear accelerator, down to 2 meV neutron energy, using a liquid nitrogen cooled methane moderator. The 6Li(n,alpha)t reaction was used for the neutron flux determination. These new results considerably enlarge and improve the sigma(f)(E)-database in the subthermal region. Hence more reliable values for the Westcott g(f)-factor and its temperature dependency can be obtained. Reactor parameters such as the temperature coefficient of reactivity can be calculated more accurately.
