Numerical calculation of crack tip parameters in a viscoplastic material
A macroscopic stationary crack in a typical viscoplastic material is considered. It is shown that, in the limit of high stresses, the constitutive equations simplify to a simple creep law thus leading at the crack tip to a HRR-type of singular field if a power-law representation is used. The amplitude of the crack tip field can be evaluated using a modified integral which includes a domain integral term and reduces to the well known expression at the crack tip, but which is, in contrast, path independent within the creep zone. These results are confirmed by finite element calculations.
