Abstract

A low-level high-purity-Ge detector has been set up at sea level in an area where the exposure rate is about 60 nSv/h. A background reduction by a factor of 73 is achieved by material selection, cryostat configuration and shielding. An analysis of the background components is given. The integrated count rate within the energy interval 50-3000 keV is (0.650±0.001) per sec.
