Abstract

The first of these seven ASDEX papers discusses the effects of edge conditions on plasma confinement, in particular in terms of H-mode behaviour and power flow into the scrape-off layer. The second paper continues this theme through isoptope studies of the edge plasma, using edge modelling to explain isotopic scalings. The third paper compares open with closed geometries, the fourth reviews results achieved by boronisation of the inner wall, and the fifth analyses asymmetries in toroidal energy deposition. The two final papers were presented at the Cadarache workshop. The first considers radiation control in poloidal divertor tokamaks on the basis of both theoretical and experimental work. The second paper discusses radiation behaviour in ASDEX divertor discharges at the density limit.
