Fission neutron penetration in iron and sodium - I. Activation measurements
EURACOS II is an irradiation facility with a high intensity fission neutron source (6.12x1.0E11n/s). It consists of an irradiation chamber sufficiently large to accommodate representative mock-ups of reactor radiation shields. This installation has been used to study neutron penetration in homogeneous materials Fe and Na, which are among those most commonly commonly used in the construction of advanced reactors. Using special techniques (like the burning of S detectors in conjunction with a sophisticated separation of the background contributions) fluxes up to 130 cm in Fe and up to 390 cm in Na have been measured.
