Objectives, activities and achievements of the BCR programmeFunded under: FP2-BCR 4
The aim of the BCR programme is to improve the quality of measuring techniques in order to obtain reliable comparable measuring systems in the EEC Member States. The BCR programme is not concerned with drawing up standards but contributes to the standardisation process by supplying the necessary technical support for correct application of measuring techniques (specifying, whenever necessary, the appropriate reference materials). The BCR programme is designed to deal with the following problems: - important industrial measurements, both in traditional applications (for example thermal conductivity) and in advanced technology (electronics, high frequency telecommunications etc.) i.e. metrology section; - measurements relating to environmental, food and biomedical analysis i.e. chemical analysis section. For each project, the programme aims to bring together laboratories (possibly from all the Member States), which will collaborate in improving the measurement or analysis techniques being examined. Priority is given to parameters that are difficult to analyse, the results of which show variations that exceed clinical requirements.
