Emergency pressure relief of batch reactors
This report concerns the safety of batch reactors under runaway reaction or external fire conditions. This topic has recently received increasing attention from the process industries, the media and public authorities as a consequence of several severe accidents which have occurred in the past. Design methods for adequate emergency relief systems, including two-phase flow conditions, are reviewed. In particular, experimental and analytical procedures concerning the in-vessel/venting-line fluid flow descriptions are presented and discussed.
