Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The RACE (Research and development in Advanced Communications technologies for Europe) project aims at developing advanced communications technology for the introduction of commercial integrated broadband communications services in 1995. The first phase of RACE includes 17 pilots in industry, healthcare, transport, finance, media and culture. These will be followed by Operation 1992, a structured range of experiments to assess the practical benefits of the pilots. This report outlines the manner in which aspects of these pilot projects are being developed and the applications envisaged. By joining these experiments now, organisations could well increase their effectiveness and competitiveness in the future and gain a headstart in the communications techniques of the next century.
