Abstract

Two kinds of models for describing the time-dependent behaviour of plastic Boom clay (Belgium) were compared: a creep model and a pore pressure dissipation model. In a first exploratory phase, three teams independently solved two idealised problems: (1) the excavation of a deep tunnel with a stiff and permeable lining; (2) an in-situ dilatometer creep test. The conclusions drawn from this comparison are presented.
