Operational surveillance of fires in the tropical zone
This short report on the international surveillance of fires in the tropical zone summarises its objectives: to gather information on the problem, to assess the impact on the local environment, to give advance warning and to manage the problem. The detection methods employed and problems encountered in putting them into full operation are reviewed from a scientific and operational perspective. The report concludes with recommendations for the application of the results and for research methods.
