Abstract

In the framework of the Industrial Hazards programme of the JRC a computer program (RELIEF) is being developed at Ispra which describes the two-phase behaviour of multicomponent chemical reacting fluids during depressurisation, and can be used for sizing emergency venting systems for runaway chemical reactions in tank reactors. This paper discusses the main features of the models which are currently being implemented in the computer program. It also presents illustrative computations to highlight the relative importance of a number of parameters which influence the venting process.
