  • Improving the economics of coal in the industrial boiler house: an investigation of the use of closely sized small coal to produce a low cost fully automatic site installation and delivery system

Abstract

This report begins with a description of the different systems available for the delivery of coal by road, followed by an assessment of the costs of making multiple part load deliveries during one journey and an assessment of on-board weighing systems. The use of a small diameter pneumatic delivery system and a flexible spiral delivery screw for delivering small coal grades is discussed. The development of storage systems suitable for commercial sites is reported, together with the development and demonstration of low cost mechanical and pneumatic conveying systems suitable for a small closely graded bituminous coal. The development of both low cost mechanical and pneumatic ash removal systems is discussed. Finally, the design and operation of modular boilerhouses is described and the means for reducing capital costs are discussed.
