Abstract

Creep damage in an austenitic steel due to microcrack formation on grain boundary facets is considered. The metallographic examination is compared with non-destructive ultrasonic (US) velocity measurements. It is shown that both measurements can be related to a crack density parameter which also appears in the constitutive law for the creep strain rate.
