It is possible to improve the volumetric sweep efficiency in a waterflood by injecting a gelling solution or a foam into a well, to change the injectivity profile and the distribution of water flowing in the reservoir. A thorough study of gels and foams has been completed. Experiments were carried out to study transport properties of chemicals used to form gels and to evaluate gel properties and foam flow inside porous media. Results are discussed and conclusions presented.
