The European Solar Storage Testing Group (SSTG) was established in 1982. Its aim was to investigate and develop procedures for the testing of short term solar heat stores. The recommended test procedures resulting from the SSTG programme were primarily developed for the thermal characterisation of commercial, available, sensible heat storage systems. The parameters derived from the test are applicable to product information and can be used as parameters in a validated numerical storage model for system simulation. Development of an appropriate storage model was the second aim of the group. The Group's recommendations have been documented (EUR 13118, published by Kluwers Academic Publishers) together with a description of the test facility requirement and an overview of the recommended test procedures. This final report gives an overview of the Group's coordinated activities and papers dealing with a number of special activities.
