Abstract

Hot strip produced from steels with carbon contents of 0.4 to 0.7% is used as primary material for cold-rolled strip that is quenched and tempered as a final step. The aim of the project was, with the aid of hot deformation simulation tests, to work out the hot deformation and cooling strategies for controlling the properties of hot strip produced from high carbon steels. Cold-rolling and annealing tests were intended to indicate the effects of the microstructure of hot strip on the cold strip properties. Shop trials in a hot strip mill examined the applicability of the parameters determined by simulation.
