Abstract

An overview is given of today's conditioning techniques for the inner walls of fusion devices and their influence on the plasma performance. In addition to discharge cleaning in hydrogen (RG, ECR, GD, TD-cleaning) which was developed for metallic inner surfaces, helium conditioning, carbonisation, boron and beryllium treatment are used in devices with graphite components. Observations made after the diborane flushing through TEXTOR are also given.
