Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

Parts I and II of this project have the overall aim of carrying out research and development into cutting as a method of coal winning and have resulted in the industrial application of new techniques in tools and in machine construction. In the first part a hydraulic impact plough specially designed for working through geological faults was constructed. In this second project, fundamental theoretical investigations using a mechanical impact tool were carried out in parallel with the design of an improved hydraulic impact plough, whose construction is nearing completion. This machine will be used for investigations into aspects of process engineering, problems with loading and the usefulness of various drive designs.
