Interference from 2,3,5,6-3'4' hexachlorobiphenyl (CB-163) in the determination of 2,3,4-2'4'5' hexachlorobiphenyl (CB-138) in environmental and technical samples
The presence in environmental and technical samples of an interference (PCB 163) on the HRGC-ECD determination of PCB 138 was demonstrated with the very polar column SP-2330. EI mass spectra of the pure standards (PCB 163 being synthesized in-house) were different, due to the "ortho-effect", which helped in the confirmation of results. These findings render previous analysis of PCB 138 with non-polar columns questionable.
