Reports of the Scientific Committee for Food (Twenty-fourth series)
Weaning foods are foods suitable for infants and young children during the transition from a diet of milk or milk substitutes to adult food. The opinions of the Scientific Committee for Food on the requirements of weaning foods are presented. The variety of weaning foods commercially available in the Community is examined. Recommendations are given for various categories of weaning foods (cereals and other starchy foods, and baby foods) regarding, inter alia, the required amounts of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, minerals and vitamins.
