The two most important components of a solar heating system, apart from the control system, are the solar collector and the heat storage vessel. This book presents procedures for testing short-term solar heat stores, developed by the European Solar Storage Testing Group (SSTG). Emphasis is placed on stores suitable for use in solar energy domestic hot water and/or space heating systems. The test procedures recommended were primarily developed for the thermal characterisation of commercially available sensible heat storage systems. They can, however, also be used as a basis for research and development of new designs and latent heat storage devices.
