The Institute for Remote Sensing Applications contribution to the Global Change research programme
Three major scientific issues - modelling climate and climatic change, monitoring tropical deforestation and estimation of greenhouse gas emissions from biomass burning - are discussed in detail. The role of remote sensing in addressing these issues is reviewed, and the specific involvement of the Institute for Remote Sensing Applications is outlined. An appendix summarises the main elements of the International Geosphere Biosphere Research Programme.
