The current status of off-gas preconditioning using high intensity acoustic fields is described with a view to particulate precipitation on a large scale. Results obtained from agglomeration experiments both under static and dynamic conditions at a frequency of 20 kHz and mass loadings in the range 1-14g/m3 are presented. Prospects for large scale applications, both for routine treatment of industrial off-gases and non-routine accident mitigation are described.
