The development of the European Accident Code-2 (EAC-2) aims to obtain a benchmark-type code system for the improved analysis of the initiation phase of unprotected whole-core accidents in LMFBRs. The major new models are the pin behaviour code TRANSURANUS, a fast version of the fission-gas behaviour code LAKU, the newly developed CAMDYN pre- and post failure in-pin motion model, the detailed MDYN fuel motion model for the coolant channels, and a 3-D nodal time dependent diffusion and transport neutronic model. These models are reviewed and whole-core applications and new validation efforts are described.
