Engineering design concept of the Advanced Limiter Test-II
A description is given of the engineering design concept of the Advanced Limiter Test-II (ALT-II). When designing ALT-II, the aim was to build a large, movable plasma facing component to operate in the severe high temperature, high heat flux, vacuum environment of the TEXTOR tokamak. This work was carried out among partners, located on different continents and possessing different standards. The various contributions of these ALT-II collaborators are reviewed, and the various problems encountered by them in communications, scheduling and cost are discussed.
