Abstract

Carbon coated metals have proved to be useful materials for limiters and the first wall in fusion reactors. SIMS investigations of a-C:B single coated and a-C:D/a-C:B double coated stainless steel are described. These samples were exposed to tokamak discharges in deuterium and helium. It is concluded that bilayers of a-C:D/a-C:B on stainless steel exhibit good stability in tokamak experiments.
