Quality assurance in the management of radioactive waste in the European CommunityFunded under: FP1-RADWASTOM 3C
This report describes the current position and practice of quality assurance in radioactive waste management and its development prospects within the European Community Member States, from both the technological and regulatory points of view. Examples are given of the consequences of not, or negligently, applying quality assurance to radioactive waste management. Recommendations for possible improvements are also presented. Most types of civil radioactive waste are considered, from nuclear reactor waste to waste from hospitals, research and industry, with the exception of uranium mill-tailings and spent fuel declared as waste.
