Abstract

Important problems in fusion technology and fusion materials research, the investigation of which requires intense fast neutron sources, are surveyed. The most urgent tasks concern the investigation of 14 MeV neutron radiation damage in the first wall and other structural components of future fusion reactors and the development of low-activation materials. The needs of neutron sources according to energy range, neutron intensity, flux and fluence, and the scope of present capabilities are outlined for this special field of application.
