Abstract

Growers of greenhouse crops are under strong pressure from consumers to provide quality produce. There is an abundance of products on the market to help growers achieve this by controlling pests and diseases, but often these products are toxic or have secondary effects on man and the environment. Efficient alternative, non-toxic methods are considered, with particular emphasis on biological techniques, such as the use of natural agents to control pests. More than forty papers give details of work being carried out throughout the European Community on the control of pests and diseases in protected crops and on various integrated pest management programmes.
