Pool scrubbing is a safety feature in boiling water reactors, which are equipped with a suppression pool, designed to condense steam released during an accident. In some severe accident sequences in pressurised water reactors, the pathway of fission products (FP) and aerosols to the containment atmosphere may also include the passage through a water pool. At the seventh meeting of the European Pool Scrubbing Group, the European Commission presented details of the EC programme, in the framework of the Shared Cost Action Programme 1988-91: research area "Source Term".
