Abstract

The PLEXIS-3C computer program is seen as a convenient tool for research developments as well as for engineering calculations, with particular emphasis on coupled fluid-structure problems. Thanks to its generality, the program can model phenomena of a quite different nature from its primary applications in fast transient dynamics. For instance, incompressible fluids and advection-diffusion phenomena, or extremely large elastoplastic flows of solid materials, typical of industrial forming processes, are also modelled. New techniques borrowed from the field of fluid mechanics show the applicability of the ALE formulation to structural mechanics.
