Development of rationalized finite element algorithms for the rapid and accurate analysis of metal forming problems

Previous ECSC supported projects have resulted in two- and three- dimensional finite models for the analysis of metal forming processes, the models being referred to collectively as 'Prefect'. In order to solve the complex metal forming problems currently under investigation, particularly those concerning deformation in hot rolling, the models require further development in several key areas and consequently four broad objectives were identified for the present work: further development of the basic models to incorporate more realistic boundary conditions and other physical assumptions, reduction in computer time, improved user friendliness and experimental validation.
