  • Study of "all-solid" rechargeable lithium generators functioning at ambient temperature : Study and improvement of solid amorphous electrolytes and associated electrodes : Construction of a prototype

Abstract

This research had two aims: - to define, design and construct a prototype all-solid rechargeable generator, functioning at ambient temperature, following the electrochemical chain: lithium or lithium-based alloy / solid electrolyte / intercalation material and then to study and improve the performance of all constituents of the electrochemical generator for their use in the prototype. This report describes the development of each element of this type of electrochemical generator, the study of its electrodes and its electrolyte, and the selection of the materials, in particular, that of the positive electrode. The behaviour of different types of lithium is also analysed. The lithium alloy best suited for the negative electrode has not yet been identified. Three prototypes were constructed to test these results. In two, the positive electrode was based on V(6)O(13); in one, it was based on V(2)O(5). Problems with dentrites seem to arise in every case on charging.
