Application of eigenvector analysis to the atmospheric correction of ocean color data
Considering subsurface water reflectance as multivariate response data and evaluating the characteristic vector of a set of case 1 water reflectances, it is shown how the problem of atmospheric correction of ocean colour data taken from satellites can be reduced to solving a linear equation system of order N from the N scalar multipliers of the characteristic vectors. For case 1 water, N = 2. Typical results of the application of the method to CZCS data are presented, and the extension of the method to case 2 waters (N > 2) and to multispectral data is discussed.
