Heat integration is of interest to industry and to engineers concerned with the synthesis of chemical systems. This research deals with two different problems: the heat integration of chemical processes and the optimal heat exchanger network design (SYNEP1); and the optimal management of a utility network (SYNEP2). The research includes the definition of a methodology (theoretical aspect and methods definition), and the software development. The resulting informatics tool, called SYNEP, may be used by engineers in the industry.
