The development of guidelines for the choice of loudspeaker positions for building acoustic laboratory measurements
One of the main conclusions of the BCR-project "Noise attenuation measurements on double glazed windows and artifacts" was that the loudspeaker positions influenced the measurement results. All the various parameters found to influence the results are analysed in this report. They include test room size, absorption in the test room, construction and positioning of the test specimen and niche geometry. The following activities have been carried out: - systematic measurements and calculations of average sound pressure levels in the diffuse sound fields for a great number of loudspeaker positions; - detailed studies of the sound fields close to the test specimen; - modal analysis of the sound fields in the source rooms, and - statistical studies concerning measurement precision. Simple requirements for loudspeaker type and position are derived, and guidelines for finding optimum positions are developed, which also contain a qualification test for the selected positions.
